THE 2016 Eden Food and Farming Festival promises to be the biggest and best yet.
The week-long celebration of local food production starts on 16th July with Penrith on a Plate and culminates in Penrith show the following Saturday. Sandwiched in between will be a week of food-related events and activities across the district.
Richard Utting, who leads the festival’s organising committee, said: “We’re proud to live in one of England’s prime agricultural locations. The food and farming festival gives people a chance to enjoy the produce of the beautiful landscape — the fields, fells, farmland and hedgerows, the historic houses and the small villages with their kitchen gardens.
"The festival will show people inside and outside the district how fabulous the food is in Eden. It’s a chance to meet the people who grow and rear our food and find out how it ends up on our plates.”
Penrith on a Plate will see the town come alive with a full day of home-grown food stalls, food demonstrations and tastings, entertainment for all ages and the new artisan market. More than 50 local producers have already signed up to be part of the day.
Mr. Utting said: “Penrith on a Plate offers a brilliant day out for lovers of food and their families with musicians and entertainers sharing the town centre with farmers, food producers and artisan makers.”
