Businesses from across Eden are being invited to an information meeting to discuss how they can take advantage of the Tour of Britain heading through the district. The meeting will take place at North Lakes Hotel, Penrith in the Voreda Suite on Tuesday 2 June at 7pm.
On Thursday 10 September, Stage 5 of the Tour of Britain passes from Brampton down the Eden Valley then into the Lake District National Park, running alongside Ullswater. After racing through Penrith, the race will head through Melmerby before an 8km climb to a spectacular sporting finish at the top of Hartside Pass.
Last time the Tour was in Cumbria in 2013, an economic impact study showed that it brought in over £4m to the local economy. The finish at Kendal brought in over £500,000 to that area alone.
Eden District Council's Communities Director, Ruth Atkinson, said: "The Tour of Britain passing through Eden provides a great opportunity for businesses to link in and make the most of the event and the sheer number of potential customers.
“We want to work closely with businesses to maximise the benefit for them and the local economy. By working together we can make the Eden stage a memorable one for all involved.”
The event will cover information such as: –
- Practical information about road closures, car parking and facilities
- How your business might benefit from the event
- Use of the Tour of Britain logo, marketing materials and images
- Encouraging new and repeat visitors to base themselves in Eden to watch both Cumbria stages of the race and explore Eden
- Using special offers and marketing packages to add value
- Joining in the story on social media
- Sponsorship opportunities
Staff from Eden District Council, Cumbria County Council and colleagues will be on hand to provide practical information, highlight the opportunities for businesses, answer questions and listen to your ideas.
