Cumbria's Totalpost Services has signed what it says is a “significant” deal to become the worldwide distributor for MAAG Mercure automatic envelope-sealing products.
MAAG Mercure is a Swiss company. Its envelope sealers and counters are used by public-sector organisations and by large mailing houses or letter shops where the sealer works alongside large mail inserters.
Totalpost, based in Alston, was established in 2002 to manufacture mailroom equipment and consumables such as ink cartridges. It diversified into the supply of X-ray detection equipment and other security devices, and exports to about 40 countries.
Managing director David Hymers said: “This range of equipment fits very well with Totalpost’s wider portfolio which includes customised mailroom automation and insertion products and specialised mail security screening.”
Totalpost achieved sales of £5m in 2014, but expects turnover to rise to between £6.5m and £7m this year.
The company has 50 UK staff, half of them at Alston.
