Booking a long stay parking space for your car when visiting Penrith has just become a whole lot easier thanks to a new online service offered through Eden District Council’s website www.eden.gov.uk/longstayparking This service has been created using the new digital IT platform being rolled out across the Council. This new technology is enabling a range of new customer focussed projects to be designed and deployed to make services more efficient and effective.
Many commuters and visitors use the Council’s off-street car parks in Penrith when visiting Eden District for an extended period. The parking charges for a whole day Monday to Saturday are only £4.80 and £1 on Sundays and public holidays. Motorists previously could only secure a long stay parking space by calling the Council during office hours, now the service is available 24/7 online.
Eden District Council’s Communities Portfolio Holder, Elaine Martin, said: “Making more services quick and easy to use is all part of the Council’s Digital Transformation Project. Parking is a key feature people look at when planning a visit, by making this service more accessible online it can have wider benefits for the local economy and encouraging people to stay locally for longer. I hope this online service is something that local businesses and attractions can help us to promote more widely.
“We have had a very positive reaction from people who have used the service in the past week since it was activated on our website. With people describing this as a great initiative and such as simpler way to pay for parking.”
Long stay parking for up to 168 consecutive hours for cars, bikes and light goods vehicles is available in Sandgate and Bluebell Lane car parks. The Drovers Lane car park has an unlimited waiting time. For more details visit www.eden.gov.uk/longstayparking or call 01768 817817.
