Murals add colour to Penrith’s Angel Square advertising

Penrith town centre took on a bit of extra colour this month when Cumbrian artist Claire Cooper from Urbanemurals brought her skills to Angel Square.

The Kendal-based artist has created a beautiful mural on two walls at the entrance to the square showcasing the businesses within.

Artist Claire Cooper said: “I was painting a mural for Kendal Civic Society when Melanie Barnes-Batty who works for the owners of Angel Square, The Shires, saw me working and took my details; things just snowballed from there.

“It's been lovely working in the Square, the passers-by have been really encouraging and only a few said to me "you've missed a bit... you should have gone to Specsavers."

The murals are a permanent addition to the town centre and have been well received by customers and businesses alike who welcome the novel approach to advertising.

Alan Reading from J&J Graham said: “We like the Angel Square murals, it’s nice to see something done the ‘old fashioned way’ by a skillful hand! “They’re tastefully done, give good information and break up an otherwise boring wall.”
