Leadership Masterclass: Leading Change
The Centre for Leadership Performance (CforLP) works to build leadership aspirations, potential and capabilities for the people of Cumbria because we believe better leadership means better lives for everyone. Over the past decade we have collaborated with educators, businesses, and young people to co-create, develop and deliver programmes that nurture aspirations, ignite ambitions and enhance leadership capability from Primary School to Retirement, providing opportunities for our leadership community to learn together and from one another.
What are we doing?
Throughout 2022 and 2023, we’ve launched a brand new series of Leadership Masterclasses, where we are reinvesting our surplus revenue to encourage conversations about leadership, share learning and best practice, and develop leadership capability. These events will showcase multi-generational leadership from across the four areas of our business (Primary, Secondary, Early Careers and Workplace) and in doing so:
- change perceptions about leadership, sharing the idea of everyday leadership
- promote and enable learning from one another
- build relationships between educators, employers and young people
- give back to the businesses supporting our programmes
- bring diversity of thought to some of Cumbria's leadership challenges
To maximise the learning from each masterclass we will also be running bite-size short courses on related topics as part of our Leadership Toolbox, along with an expert led ‘deep dive’ into each of the themes.
Themes
We have identified the following themes for the quarterly events during 2022/2023.
- Collaborative Leadership
- Leading with Purpose
- Leading Change
- Inclusive Leadership
Leading Change
Following the success of the previous Leadership Masterclasses, exploring "Collaborative Leadership" and “Leading with Purpose”, CforLP are delivering the third masterclass in partnership with North Lakes Hotel. CforLP have worked collaboratively with the team at North Lakes Hotel through some of our young people’s programmes such as Bright Stars, Dream Placement and Leading Change. We’re delighted to be working together on this event, to bring together leaders of all levels for an interactive and impactful event exploring the topic of Leading Change. With the whole county going through a period of change with the reorganisation of the local authorities, we hope the event will provide a platform for valuable conversations that everyone can learn from.
We wanted our masterclass series to reflect our county-wide approach, and are thrilled to be bringing the next one to the Eden area.
Speakers
Speakers will have 15 minutes to introduce their approach to the topic. We anticipate that the speakers will bring case studies to showcase their experience of “Leading Change”. The following points are suggestions for what to include, but not exhaustive:
- What is your experience of “Leading Change”?
- What benefits has it brought? Have you faced any specific challenges?
- How can others (companies, individuals or sectors) adopt the learning?
Learning Labs
To ensure the event is interactive for attendees and to maximise on shared learning, the Learning Labs will be mini workshops led by 2 of the keynote speakers. The Labs will be co-facilitated by a member of the CforLP team. The Labs could involve running a practical activity, sharing tools and techniques or exploring some of the relevant challenges in Cumbria. If the speaker has a particular challenge they are looking for input on, this would be a great platform to explore this. We would encourage partners to come up with their own challenge or topic, however CforLP can also provide a topic relating to Leading Change if required.
Q&A Panel
The event will include a facilitated Q&A session, to allow the audience the opportunity to ask questions that may have arisen from conversations or keynote presentations. The Q&A session will be facilitated by CforLP to ensure questions are directed to the most appropriate speaker. Some questions may be submitted in advance and will be shared with partners prior to the event where possible.
Ideally partners will take on all 3 roles for continuity and to maximise on learning.
