Employability Fair in Appleby

02 March 2022

An Employability Fair will arrive in Appleby next week – kicking off National Careers Week 2022!

This is the first employability fair to be hosted by Right2Work, in support of all adults plus young people aged 14-plus in the Eden community, taking place at Appleby Hub on Chapel Street, Appleby CA16 6QR on Monday March 7 from 4.30pm to 8pm.

Mandy Morland, community learning manager of Right2Work, the main organiser, said: “Events like this are so important to ensure young people and adults are aware of the opportunities available to them within Eden. It is designed to bring together employers and training providers that can provide face to face guidance and support to those looking for career and/or training opportunities now or in the future.

“Right2Work is a growing and thriving organisation that carries out an increasingly diverse range of activities from a well organised and bustling centre. We are a community interest company (CIC) and are part of the Oaklea Group. Our long term strategy is built around three key elements; Community, learning and wellbeing.

“As we all know, the pandemic has been challenging for so many people and for the past two years open events, such as careers fairs, have not always been possible.

“As an organisation we felt it was important to support the wider community and provide a platform for organisations to share what they can offer.

“We have representation from 22 organisations, covering a wide range of sectors and they will share employment opportunities plus training, further and higher education options. Attend the fair and you will enter a prize draw to win one of the generous prizes on offer, kindly donated by organisations attending.”

The event is supported by Cumbria Community Foundation and Appleby Community Enterprises.

Gareth Hayes, Appleby mayor, said: “This is a super initiative and one that we wholeheartedly welcome. It’s now up to the candidates to enthusiastically grab the opportunity and jump in with both feet. It’s simplistic to say, but you don’t win the raffle if you don’t buy a ticket.”

Organisations attending include:

  • A Wilderness Way
  • Army Careers
  • British Gypsum
  • Cumbria County Council
  • Dodd & Co Accountants
  • Eden Country Care
  • Ernest Cook Trust/Lowther Castle
  • Inspira

Mandy added: “If you are a job seeker or a young person considering career choices then come along and benefit from the encounters with employers, employees and training providers. This event will help you find out about the skills, knowledge and experience required to fulfil the roles on offer.

“There will also be useful handouts on the night with vital job searching toolkits to help your employment journey.

“I would like to thank everyone involved with this event, in particular the local organisations giving up their time to come along on the night and also donate towards the event, without the support we couldn’t make this happen.”
