Funding for farmers who protect and enhance the environment
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs announced yesterday (5 January 2023) that farmers will receive increased payments for protecting and enhancing nature and delivering sustainable food production under the government's Environmental Land Management schemes.
The government announced funding for farmers and landowners through both the Countryside Stewardship (CS) and the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) schemes, which will provide support to the industry. It also confirmed that it would soon publish an expanded range of actions under the schemes for which farmers could be paid.
The CS scheme provides financial incentives for farmers, foresters and land managers to look after and improve the environment. The SFI scheme helps farmers manage land in a way that improves food production and is more environmentally sustainable.
