Financial Support for Eden businesses affected by Coronavirus
On 21 December 2021 the Government announced a package of support for hospitality and leisure businesses that are losing trade because of the Omicron variant, as well as a new discretionary Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) scheme to support other businesses, based on local economic need. These schemes will be administered by local authorities.
Two new grants administered by local authorities will be available to businesses as follows:
- Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant
- Additional Restrictions Grant (third top up)

The UK Government has also set up a dedicated page outlining the full range of business support measures that are available.
The Local Resilience Forum has established a number of sub-groups to support people and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes the Business and Economic Response and Recovery Group (BERRG), which is being chaired by the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership. More information about this group can be found on the Cumbria LEP website. BERRG is keen to hear from businesses that want to provide intelligence or need support, with businesses invited to email [email protected]
Business Rates Relief
Eden District Council will administer the following business rate holidays and grants.
Business Rates Relief
- Businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors in England will not have to pay business rates for the 2020-21 tax year
- Nurseries in England do not have to pay business rates for the 2020-21 tax year
Business rates reliefs will be applied automatically to eligible businesses.
