Tour of Britain
On Thursday 10 September the UK's biggest professional cycle race, the Tour of Britain, will head through Eden with a spectacular summit finish at the top of Hartside pass.
The climb to Hartside will be the only mountain finish in the whole of the 2015 tour, and the highest finish ever in the history of the tour. The organisers are already predicting that it will be the sporting highlight of this year's tour and is the highest, longest, toughest finish in the history of the tour!
Last time the Tour was in Cumbria in 2013, an economic impact study showed that it brought in over £4m to the local economy. The finish at Kendal brought in over £500,000 to that area alone.
There will be a great many people coming to Eden, as well as an even bigger number of people from Eden and Cumbria who will line the route of the Tour of Britain. It is a great opportunity for businesses to link in and make the most of the event and the sheer number of potential customers.
We want to work closely with businesses to maximise the benefit for them and the local economy. The Tour of Britain will open the Eden District up to people who’ve never heard of it before, let's make the Eden stage a memorable one.
