Pushing boundaries, quality products, great transport connections and shrewd local business collaborations key to success for Eden River Brew.

Eden River Brew, started up in the 14th century Brougham Hall, near Penrith in March 2012. The brewhouse originally comprised a 5 barrel mashtun, copper, hot liquor tank, cold liquor tank and 3 fermenters, this was increased to five 5 barrel fermenters in May 2013.

Eden River Brew’s commitment to pushing boundaries to differentiate has ensured growth without fighting local competition, and in Summer 2014 funding from the Rural Development Programme for England lead to expansion into another unit with an additional two 10 barrel fermenters. Head brewer Jason Hill said that the stunning countryside and lifestyle was the main reason for setting up business in Eden however the accessibility of their location on the intersection of the A66 and M6 corridor is perfect for export, allowing fast travel without the congestion of big cities. At the moment Eden River Brew export beer UK-wide, however Mr Hill believes that exporting internationally is the next logical step in the expansion of the brewery. Despite their international plans, Eden River Brew support local businesses wherever possible using local bottler, graphic designer and local distributors to export their beer out of county. They find that local businesses really want to help and provide a high quality service.

Over the past few years shrewd collaborations with local businesses such as Cranstons, Westmorland Ltd and the Settle-Carlisle railway have contributed to the brewery’s success, in 2014 profits almost doubled after a 28% growth in turnover. Now based in Penrith, aspirations for Eden River Brew are high, they are hoping for further growth and to take on an international market all whilst based in the stunning countryside of Eden.
