From the 17–31 May this year Love Your Local Market (LYLM) is holding its fifth yearly fortnight of festivity.
LYLM is a campaign that celebrates markets across the United Kingdom by bringing them together to encourage shoppers to continue sustaining the unique shopping experiences that they find on their doorstep.
This year Gifted Eden, held on the third Saturday of every month in St Andrew’s Churchyard, Penrith, is getting involved and is inviting people across Cumbria to take part in LYLM’s suggested pledge. It asks everyone to attend their local market and spend £5 that would otherwise have been spent in a supermarket on local, home grown and handmade produce.
This month Gifted Eden is challenging shoppers to come along to the market on the 21 May, buy some produce from the many food traders and take it home to cook up a storm. Photos of these efforts should be sent to the Gifted Eden Facebook page where they’ll then be put to a vote with the winner securing a spot in the Gifted Eden recipe book that will make an appearance at the market later in the year.
