    Cumbria Chamber of Commerce describe themselves as being the voice of Cumbrian business representing both small to medium enterprises and larger corporate organisations. Membership of Cumbria Chamber of Commerce opens up a wealth of free essential business information and advice, a busy events diary with great networking opportunities, International Trade support, and discounts on a whole range of services. 

    Eden District Council has provided £30,000 of funding to support local business growth and expansion in the area. The money is used as match funding by Cumbria Chamber of Commerce for a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) project, which will provide support for new businesses and businesses wishing to develop within Eden District. This contribution from Eden District Council ensures that all business sectors can benefit from this project including tourism, retail and nuclear.

  • Centre for Global Eco-Innovation

    Centre for Global Eco-Innovation

    On offer is £7.1 million worth of research opportunities for businesses based across in Cumbria, enabling them to develop their business and make the transition to a lower carbon economy. This can include short-term feasibility studies through to long-term technical R&D projects all focussing on new processes, services or technologies addressing one of the list of key issues below:

    • Energy – reduce energy use and increase energy efficiency
    • Resource Efficiency – encouraging production and consumption chains and systems to be organized in a more circular and efficient way
    • Waste - supporting improvements in the way that waste materials are managed through solutions that offer greater efficiency and reduced environmental impact
    • Water – reduced consumption, management and flood mitigation
    • Food security and plant science – increasing yield and efficiencies to feed a growing population
    • Biodiversity – preserving habitat, offsetting schemes and planning permissions

    A peer network and business growth programme designed specifically for growth orientated small and medium sized businesses in Cumbria run by Lancaster University.The Forum is a six-month programme for owner-managers, MDs, and senior decision makers of SMEs with a growth aspiration.

  • The helpline offers an initial first stage telephone diagnostic, which would then lead to signposting to support the requirements  of the business such as finance, export, trade etc. It will also provide an additional referral service for the Cumbria Growth hub, where businesses can go on to receive face to face advisor support.
