Levelling Up and Regeneration: further information
Last week (11 May 2022), DLUHC published further information on how, through the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill and subsequent legislation and policy, the department plans to support struggling towns and cities and provide assistance to local leaders on regeneration.
This is a key component of the wider programme to level up the country, as set out in the Levelling Up White Paper published in February this year. The White Paper unveiled an ambitious programme to reduce inequality and close the gap – in productivity, health, incomes, and opportunity.
The Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill, which was introduced to Parliament yesterday, also incorporates some of the proposals for planning reform outlined in the earlier Planning for the Future White Paper (August 2020).
