Tenacity, perseverance and innovation celebrated at Cumbria’s Farm Business Awards

22 September 2022

Thriving family businesses and individuals who have overcome many challenges were named the best in their field at the glittering Cumbria Farm Business Awards this month.

Recognising the important contribution farming in Eden has within the local economy, Eden District Council sponsored a special category - Eden’s MostMary Robinson presents the Eden's most Sustainable Agricultural Business award Sustainable Agricultural Business - which was newly created this year.

It was a tough call for Cllr Mary Robinson, Deputy Leader of Eden District Council, who went out on the road to judge two impressive farms in Eden.

But in the end there could only be one winner on the night: Jim & Julia Beary from Orton, who demonstrated their successful regenerative grazing models and a great understanding of what it means to be farming in a protected landscape.

"We were delighted to support the Cumbria Farm Business Awards this year," said Councillor Mary Robinson, Deputy Leader & Economy and Enterprise Portfolio Holder.

"As part of our commitment to Eden's important rural economy, through our Inspiring Eden economic development work programme, we wanted to celebrate the very best in Eden's agricultural sector. The Cumbria Farm Business Awards are a fitting way to do this and we were pleased to be sponsoring Eden's most Sustainable Agricultural Business category to recognise those organisations who strive to achieve rural excellence."
