Youth Hub provides extra support to young jobseekers in Eden

06 January 2022

Eden jobseekers under the age of 25 will be able to access extra support in their search for work, thanks to a new Youth Hub in the District.

The hub, based in the Eden Foyer in the heart of Penrith, also has outreach locations across the Eden District. It is part of the UK Government's multi-billion-pound Plan for Jobs, and is one of six similar hubs being opened across the county.

Young jobseekers will be able to take advantage of a comprehensive service, with Youth Employability Coaches from Jobcentre Plus providing them with tailored support to find work or reskill for alternative careers, and alerting them to local training opportunities.

The Eden hub operates from Penrith each Tuesday, from 10am to 4pm. Partner organisations based at the Foyer will also be able to offer guidance on wider issues related to unemployment, including budgeting, debt management and housing.

Cllr. Mary Robinson, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economies and Enterprise at Eden District Council, said: "Eden District Council is delighted to be working in Partnership with the DWP and Inspira on the launch of the Youth Hub. Whilst the hub is based in the Foyer, in the heart of our Penrith community, outreach work will ensure that young people across Eden are given help and support to get into work.

"This programme will form an important work stream within 'Inspiring Eden', our Economic Development programme for driving economic recovery and prosperity over the coming months and years".
