Skills and Employment Prospectus

The Cost of Living Crisis, COVID-19 and BREXIT continue to present challenges across Eden’s economy, with a particular impact on the mismatch between labour supply and skills and the staffing needs of businesses to drive economic recovery.

Inspiring Eden has been setup to help communities and local businesses grasp the many challenges and opportunities they face and as a result drive economic recovery and growth. Inspiring Eden offers a range of Skills and Learning opportunities, which ensure current and emerging needs are met and the full potential of the local labour market is harnessed. This Prospectus details the offers as the basis for promoting partnership working, targeted intervention as well as developing Eden’s workforce and economic base as the basis for driving economic recovery, prosperity and levelling up.

  • Adult Learning in Eden - English; maths; ESOL; Digital and Employability skills up to L2 providing access to employment, prospects for better jobs and improving self-esteem
  • Cumbria Youth Alliance – helping young people overcome barriers to employment

Current Offer: Employment

Inspiring Eden Youth Hub – supporting young people aged 16 -24 who are in receipt of benefits and help them to move into work and training.Apprentices

Dragons Apprentice Challenge – supporting teams of young people who are out of work, enabling them to gain essential employability skills.

Eden Apprenticeship Grants – offering grants to Eden businesses of all sectors across the district.

Jobs Fair – working with DWP, bringing together schools, employers and training providers to showcase the range of jobs, training and apprenticeships on offer across Eden.

Marketing, Publicity and PR - Promotion of partner events and initiatives through networking, joint marketing and utilising the existing communications routes of partner organisations.

National Careers Service – delivered by Inspira across Cumbria. Available to all adults looking to find out about moving into work, career changes, training opportunities and skills health checks.

Adult Learning in Eden - free employability workshops and courses to 19+ cohort. Short stepping stone qualifications that improve life chances and confidence leading to discrete skills courses.

DWP Employee Health and Disability Support – free advice to support employers and help keep people in work.
